Hey, good choice! I'm proud of you and your baby is too!

You have made a choice to make sure your baby grows in a healthy way for today. It is never safe to drink alcohol while pregnant. Keep up the good decision making and you will have no regrets.

Reasons to have a healthy baby:

1. Your baby will excel in school with a healthy mind.

2. Your baby will not suffer from the physical effects of having FASD.

3. Having a child with FASD is too expensive and time consuming.

3. Your parents will be proud of their accomplishments.

4. Your child will have a happier life.

5. Your child will not need a lot of attention and discipline.

6. You increase the chances that your child will grow up strong.

7. You will be contributing to a healthy Lakota Nation.

8. Your child may be your retirement plan in the future.

9. Your child will be an income tax deduction and earned income credit!

10. You can be proud of yourself for being healthy with a healthy family.

Emotional:

You will have a well-balanced baby by making healthy decisions about your diet, nutrition, exercise, and environment. It is believed that babies can sense your emotions while you are pregnant. It is also said that babies can hear voices, and you'll be surprised about how they can respond to familiar voices after they are born.

Physical:

Your baby has a better chance of being born healthy as long as you continue to make good decisions. Think of this as an investment in the future of your family. Your child has a great opportunity to be born with ten little toes and ten little fingers, just as a healthy baby would have.

Spiritual:

Your child will have healthy self-esteem and confidence knowing that you loved and cared so much about them that you made all the right decisions. Our wakanyeja (sacred beings) are so special to us and we are the protectors of their souls. Tunkasila, the Creator, has given you this gift because you have the ability to care for this special person.

Mental:

Your baby will have an easier time at school because the brain will develop at a normal rate as long as you continue to stay alcohol and drug free. Your baby's brain is forming all the time while you are pregnant.
